Not again!" But this is the sincerest form of flattery I know. Ode to Q and the Ladies who Like to Write About Him Mercutio, our latest bard Has really made my life quite hard By writing many lines of verse About our Q, our obsession and curse. We love him as a bad-boy god We love him as a human clod We love him straight, we love him gay We love him every which a-way. Our urgent need to break him down and tear him up and steal his crown Is equalled only by our fight To get him in a luckless plight. Alara, Merc, you both have tried to have him commit suicide And I have made him so depressed He chased away his favorite guest. Then when he's sad and starts to cry, A doughty heroine comes by She binds his wounds and buys him lunch And knocks out bad guys with one punch. But does our boy show gratitude? Oh, no, he's stubborn, mean and rude The ladies have their work cut out To make a man out of this lout. But all our heroines are tough They're made of much superior stuff Than any whining former god They'll whip him into shape, that clod! They'll see him beg, they'll watch him crawl They'll get his back against the wall He'll shape right up and not pretend Or they won't let him be their friend. Then Q does what we've all been hopin' He sees the light! His dull eyes open True Love appears to him at last Our heroine holds his heart fast. The heroine's no Mary Sue But nothing she has tried to do Much varies from the author's plan To well and truly get her man. She's been before him all along He loved another but was wrong! How is it he could not have seen How faithful, loyal and kind she's been? He swears her his complete devotion And promises no more commotion He swears he won't give attitude But show her all his gratitude. And now Merc, do you hate my guts? Are you thinking "Gosh, that klutz Can think of nothing on her own. Her copy-catting makes me moan." I was inspired by your art Just like last time, isn't that smart? To pay you this homage in verse So when you read it please don't curse. I loved your poem, that is certain And now, before I close the curtain I confess, my favorite thing to do Is write about a god named Q. :-) --
