Ford Festiva is my property. This story copyright yours truly. Across Time part 1 by Alexandra Spears I was travelling along the Ohio Turnpike one summer day, minding my own business. I was a bit tired, so I turned off at a rest stop a few miles away from the I-280 turnoff. Summer was vacation time. You could tell by all the cars parked at this particular stop on I-80/90. I chose to park my Ford Festiva in a relatively remote area. I tucked my cell phone into my purse (not that I'd use it because it was in roam anyway), made sure all my doors were locked, and stepped out of my car. Going across the crowded lot I saw something peculiar. A brown-haired man in a black and gray Starfleet uniform was standing around, doing nothing in particular. He looked so familiar...it was unsettling. I figured there might be a Star Trek convention in Toledo or something and mentally shrugged and moved on, walking past him. Suddely I felt a hand on my shoulder. "Excuse me," said a masculine voice. It sounded familiar. I turned around. It was the fellow in the Starfleet uniform. "There a convention around here somewheres?" I asked. "You're that woman that writes all those He-Man and She-Ra stories--and you even had the honor of including me in one," he said. He then added, "Mrs. Spears." I could have sworn that this guy was Q. Nah, I thought. "You must have seen my pictures page on the Internet," I said. "Yeah, I'm Alexandra Spears. And you obviously know that I'm married," I added for emphasis. "Internet...how primitive," said the guy. "And I'm Q." I began laughing. "You sure look like John de Lancie," I said. "He does a great job of portraying me," the guy said. "Okay, if you're Q, where am I headed?" "To a dreary little city called Ferndale to see your abnormal relatives." I shook my head. "Anyone who knows me knows I'm from the Detroit area." He then surprised me by reciting my Social Security number. And my driver's license number. I pulled out my license and he was right. "I suppose you're going to tell me that I'm in an alternate reality where you and the Enterprise crew are only TV characters," I said. He grinned. "Yes, a nice universe it is. No Worf, no Riker...." "So...what do you want with me, then?" "Well, Alexandra, I would like to show you what the Enterprise crew is like. You don't write nearly enough about them." "I write about the adventures of He-Man and She-Ra since there are no published novels about them," I said. "Yes, you and your friend who created the Grayskull Library. Frankly, I'm surprised you didn't have me doing carnal gymnastics with Princess Adora." I laughed again. "It would have been strictly gratuitous. Besides, I wasn't interested in that kind of thing...just a merry little romp." "And a romp it was. Well, how would you like to visit the Enterprise-E?" "Will I be back here same time, same place? I'm still making payments on that car over there." "Of course, of course. And I know your dear husband Jeffrey would miss you." Even as he snapped his fingers I wondered what hidden agenda he had.
