Disclaimer: The X-Men don’t belong to me, they
belong to Marvel. Suing may get you
a pack of gum, that’s about it.
“So, why
do you want to join?”
“I’m
tired. Tired of my friends dying,
tired of working so hard, just to be cut down. Tired of saving a human’s life to be
spit at when they see I’m a mutant.
And I’m tired of failing expectations. I’m ready to break clean, and start
over.”
“Why
should I let you in?”
“You
know my reputation, my powers.”
“I also
know your loyalties. I’ve watched
you for years, and never have you given me an impression that you would wish to
join me.”
“Times
change, people change. Maybe I
finally see the light.”
“Or
maybe you are just trying to get an inside knowledge of my operations. Aren’t there better ways? All the people you work with, isn’t
there one of them that would be more convincing?”
“I am
not a mole. I was not sent here, I
came of my own accord.”
“I have
no reason to believe you. Maybe I
should kill you where you stand.
Make future infiltrators think twice.”
“You’ve
tried many times to kill me, yet you never have. What makes me afraid of
you?”
“Good
response. You say you are tired,
but haven’t you always believed in a different way to achieve your purpose? Or have you finally lost
faith?”
“I have
lost faith. I have spent years
following what I thought was the correct path, but I’m no further than I was
before. If my chosen path isn’t
taking me, or anyone else, anywhere, is it not time to switch
paths?”
“Yes, it
is. So, you have given up the
Professor’s dream, have you?”
“Yes,
Magneto. His dream is beautiful, as
I’m sure you agree. But, it cannot
be a reality right now. If it
could, I would not be having this conversation with you. So, am I in?”
“Yes,
Scott Summers, you are. Welcome to
the team.”
Note: This is a one-shot. No sequels, unless they appear all
written out suddenly on my computer one day.
